1. Our commitment
Shaun Bagwell Masonry wants everyone to be able to find out what we do, check our licence, see our work and get in touch, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, voice control, magnification or other assistive technology.
We aim for this website, shaunbagwellmasonry.net, to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.
The quickest way to reach us never depends on the website. Call (619) 581-2492 and Shaun will answer your questions, take your project details and arrange a visit, by phone.
2. What we’ve done
The site was built with accessibility as a requirement from the start, not added afterwards:
Structure and navigation
- A "Skip to main content" link at the top of every page.
- One main heading per page, with heading levels in order, so the page outline makes sense to a screen reader.
- Landmarks for the header, navigation, main content and footer, and breadcrumb trails on inner pages.
- The current page is identified in the navigation for assistive technology.
Keyboard
- Every link, button, menu and form field can be reached and used with a keyboard alone.
- A clearly visible focus outline that is never hidden.
- The mobile menu keeps focus inside it while open, closes with the Escape key, and returns focus to the menu button.
- Navigation dropdowns and FAQ answers use native disclosure controls, which work with a keyboard even before any script loads.
- The photo viewer in the gallery closes with Escape, supports the arrow keys, and returns focus to the photo you opened.
Seeing and reading
- Our core text and button colour combinations were measured against the WCAG AA contrast ratios, not estimated.
- Colour is never the only way information is shown.
- Pages adapt to zoom and small screens. Wide price tables scroll inside their own box rather than making the page scroll sideways.
- Photos that carry information have text descriptions of what they actually show. Decorative images and icons are hidden from screen readers.
- Price tables use proper row and column headers.
Motion
- If your device is set to reduce motion, animations on the site are switched off.
- No content depends on an animation to be understood, and nothing flashes.
Forms and touch
- Every form field has a visible label, required fields are marked in text as well as visually, and error messages say what needs fixing.
- Buttons and links are sized for touch.
- Phone numbers are real links, so they can be called with one tap or from a screen reader.
3. Compatibility
The website is designed to work with current versions of major browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari) on desktop and mobile, and with the screen readers and accessibility features built into Windows, macOS, iOS and Android. The core content is plain HTML, so it can be read without JavaScript.
4. Known limitations
- Older photos. Some project photos are older, lower-resolution phone shots, so fine detail may be hard to see even when enlarged. Each one has a written description.
- Other websites. We link to sites we don't control, such as the California Contractors State License Board licence lookup and Google Maps. Their accessibility is the responsibility of their owners.
- No independent audit yet. The measures above were built in and checked by us. The site has not been formally audited by a third party.
If something on the site doesn't work for you, please tell us, even if it isn't listed here.
